Timothy says this saying is trustworthy: “If we have died with him we shall also live with him; if we persevere we shall also reign with him, but if we deny him he will deny us. If we are unfaithful he remains faithful, for he cannot deny himself.
If we die with Him. We believe in baptism we die with Christ. As He died for us, at baptism we die to the ways of the world. We die to the world in order to live like Jesus in the world, opposite of the world’s values.
If we persevere, if we endure, then we will reign with him. If we deny Him, He will deny you, yet even if we are unfaithful, Jesus remains faithful. Jesus’ job is to remain faithful, no matter what we do.
This is such a powerful message.
In summary, that if we live like Christ, we will live with Him forever, but if we deny Him He will deny us because we are saying we do not want Him. Yet he remains faithful to us forever, even in our unfaithfulness.
If we think about this, first we must ask, do we remain faithful? Then as Christians, images of Christ, How often do we remain faithful to those who hurt us? It is so easy for us to write people off or treat them poorly when they hurt us.
If we live this phrase from Timothy, we will be true to Jesus, we will be like Jesus, we will be His image and we will be with Jesus forever.
