In today’s scene from the Acts of the Apostles, Paul came to a new area, in Perga. He and those with him went into the synagogue to pray and hear the scriptures.
This was a daily custom of the Jews. Then they were asked if they had anything to say. This was also a custom when a prominent person came to your town and they still see Paul as prominent due to his rule in the Jewish Faith.
To their surprise, Paul stands up among strangers and evangelizes. He evangelizes about Jesus to those who are not accepting Jesus. He proclaims who Jesus is, by recalling the Old Testament and how it pointed to Jesus and how Jesus fulfilled it. Paul boldly spoke up about Jesus knowing it would bring him grief and hardship, but some came to believe due to his risk.
Our situations are comparable. We are around people who should believe in Jesus and live it, just like the Jews should have known Jesus and accepting Him. Do we boldly proclaim Jesus like Paul did? Paul was arrested and expelled from many places. We are only merely afraid of what people will think of us, if we speak about Jesus, especially boldly.
As we approach Pentecost, we all need to pray and allow our self to be filled with the Holy Spirit to make us as bold as Paul and the early disciples, no matter the cost, and evangelize to the world all about Jesus, beginning with our family, friends, co-workers, and neighbors.
