Jesus, in the Gospel, is explaining how He can be called the Son of David the great King.
He is referring to himself as lord, another name for the king, and then using the word Lord with a capital L for God. Jesus was pointing out how the Lord capital L, became the son of the lord the king.
Holding on to this thought, in the first reading we hear Paul say, “But you, remain faithful to what you have learned and believed because you know from whom you learned it, and that from infancy you have known the sacred Scriptures, which are capable of giving you wisdom for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus.”
This is similar to the same idea as the Gospel, humbling ourselves enough to say the Bible can teach us wisdom for Salvation. The Bible is the Word of God, the Word that became flesh.
Just as Jesus became the son of David the King, his distant grandson, He also becomes even more humbly the Word written in a book for us. This Word is wisdom, the wisdom we need for salvation.
As I have mentioned earlier this week and many times, we must know the Scriptures. St Jerome has a Great saying, “to know Scriptures is to know Christ, ignorance of Scriptures is ignorance of Christ.”
To know Christ is our salvation. To Know Christ is to know the Bible.
