I continue my reflections on the value of volunteering in our parish community, particularly opportunities for liturgical service. Without the hard work and dedication of the volunteers in our parish, the many good works we undertake would not be possible. This week, I would like to focus a little deeper on the role of lectors at Mass and the ways in which they are called to share Jesus with others as they proclaim the Word of God.
We are called to be active participants in the liturgy, not mere spectators. One beautiful way to engage more deeply in our faith is by serving as a lector at Mass. Lectors play a vital role in our worship by proclaiming the Word of God, helping to bring the scripture to life for our congregation.
Why Become a Lector?
1. Spiritual Enrichment: Proclaiming God's Word allows you to immerse yourself in scripture, deepening your understanding and strengthening your faith.
2. Community involvement: Lectors serve the parish community, contributing to a more vibrant and engaging liturgical experience.
3. Personal Growth: Public speaking as a lector enhances confidence and communication skills, fostering personal development. Who Can Be a Lector? Lectors are men and woman of all ages who feel called to share the Word of God. While no prior experience is necessary, a strong, clear speaking voice and a reverent demeanor are essential. Training and support will be provided to ensure you feel comfortable and prepared.
Training and Commitment
New lectors will attend a training session covering the logistics of reading at Mass, techniques for effective proclamation, and the spiritual significance of the role. Serving as a lector typically involves reading at one or two Masses per month, with opportunities for additional participation during holy days and special celebrations. How to get involved? If you feel called to this important ministry, please contact the parish office or speak with our Lector Coordinator after Mass. We will be happy to answer any questions and guide you through the process of becoming a lector.
Serving as a lector is a profound way to connect with God and our parish community. By sharing the Word of God, you contirbuite to the spiritual nourishment of our congregation and help make our worship more meaningful for all. We encourgage you to prayefully consider this opprotunity and join us in the vital ministry.
