Jesus really has a way of answering the questions posed to Him in a way to make the people think, as well as giving an answer people do not expect. Jesus supports the tax by saying yes pay the tax with a coin that has Caesar’s image on it.
Pay the tax because he needs the money to keep society going, and use it for the needs of society. But then he says to give to God what belongs to God. Well, then where is God’s image?
The image of Caesar is on the coin, where is the image of God? It is on us, in us, it is us. The first book of the Bible, Genesis, clearly states that we are made in the image of God.
Therefore God’s image is on us and in us.
In the answer to the question, they had to give the whole coin to Caesar. Since God’s image is on us, do we give our whole self to God? Or do we hold back by either not giving our self to God, or wanting change back in a sense giving parts of our self to God?
In the first reading, Peter is speaking about how we are all awaiting the eternal Kingdom. According to the parallel, how do we pay the tax for the eternal kingdom? Do we give all of our time for others and in relationships and prayer?
Or do we have limits and want change back? Let's move forward giving all of ourselves to God and make an eternal awesome everlasting Kingdom.
