As I was growing up, I had a great catholic education and influence. First, both sides of the family were devout Catholics.
I went to school at St. Catherines in Beechview, and there the Sisters of St. Joseph taught us how to have an intimate personal relationship with God. This was followed by the Christian Brothers at South Hills Catholic High school teaching this intimacy on a deeper level. In my senior year, I made a Teens Encounter Christ retreat and was involved in that program for about five years.
This continued the deepening of what I learned with the Sisters and Brothers. Therefore as we hear the “Our Father” being taught by Jesus today, I would like to share with you my version that I wrote bringing what Jesus taught into this day and time being removed by many years from the time of Jesus’ manner of speaking and teaching.
Our Father in Heaven, Hallowed be Your name. Inspire us to make Your kingdom come and Your Will be done by us on earth, as it is in Heaven. Give us this day and every day, the strength we need from You to get through the day, taking the good with the bad and accepting the things that come our way, realizing that You are always with us, and if we ever doubt You, help us to see You in our family friends and nature around us. Forgive us our sins as we forgive those who hurt us, helping us to learn how to forgive those who hurt us. Lead us not into temptation but lead us in Christ-like ways, for Yours is the kingdom the power and glory forever. Amen.
