As we are in these nine days between Ascension and Pentecost, we are praying the Pentecost Novena. We are praying that the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit continue to fill us so that we may be alive in the Holy Spirit.
Imagine being at the first Pentecost Novena. There are the apostles along with some disciples, gathered in the upper room awaiting the Holy Spirit to descend upon them. There are two extremely significant points we hear in the first reading today from the Acts of the Apostles. First is that they are in the Upper Room. This is where Jesus celebrated the Last Supper when He consecrated the bread and wine for the first time to become His Body and Blood.
This is where Jesus began the depth of His Passion, pouring all out for us. Also, they are there with the Blessed Mother. Jesus gives us His Body, Blood, Soul, and Divinity in the Eucharist which is also His Spirit, the Holy Spirit.
Our Blessed Mother was overshadowed by the Holy Spirit when she conceived and was asked to be the Mother of the Savior. Our Blessed Mother was also given to us as a Mother. What incredible days of events to be at. To be in the room where Jesus gave us Himself in the Eucharist for the first time, and to be there with our Blessed Mother who experienced the Holy Spirit to the fulness.
It sounds like it would have been awesome and it was. Yet we have the same thing. What a gift! We have the ability to live the Upper Room experience continually without end.
Pray each day, not just this week, for the Holy Spirit to fill you and continue to ask Our Blessed Mother to also pray with you and allow yourself to be filled with the Holy Spirit as she was, and the apostles were, and live with the fullness of the Spirit in relationship with God here and forever.
