Although, for the most part, we are not in churches today, it is the day we raise (or would have raised) our Palms in honor of our Messiah. In this action, we recall that event when Jesus was welcomed into Jerusalem.
The Palms were a sign of welcome and honor. We should welcome Jesus today just as they welcomed Him then. When we welcome Him, it should be a welcome like the great welcome on that first Palm Sunday. The difference is, instead of waving Palms for Him, and laying them on the ground in front of Him to walk on in honor, we should be doing that with our lives, in a sense, the Palms of our lives.
What are the Palms of our lives? They are every good and loving thing we do that Jesus taught us through parables and examples. They are the following of the 10 Commandments and making ourselves people of the Beatitudes. Our response to the commandments, beatitudes and the teachings of Jesus, create a beautiful welcome mat into our hearts and souls. The most important thing we can do is to make our lives and our hearts, palms and a place to welcome Him into the depths of our being.
During this time of precautions, we can raise beautiful palms to our King, by checking on each other and making sure each other’s needs are met. The littles act of love, to show someone else we care about them, shows Jesus that we care about Him. Please be mindful of others. When they welcomed Jesus with palms on the first Palm Sunday, with in one week, Jesus defeated the enemy by defeating death.
When we welcome Him in others with the palms of our life, we also participate in defeating the devil. Let us welcome our King with the palms of our Life.
