Yesterday we celebrated the Sacred Heart of Jesus Feast Day. Today we celebrate the Immaculate Heart. Celebrating these two feasts so close together truly brings to life how Mary said yes and was so united with Jesus that they were two hearts beating as one.
The Immaculate Heart is pictured with a heart with a beautiful wreath of white flowers and with 7 swords piercing her heart. Comparing and contrasting these two images of Jesus and Mary is a great meditation.
The Sacred Heart is seen with a crown of thorns representing the piercing pain of the bruises Jesus continually receives from our sins. The Immaculate Heart is seen with a wreath of flowers representing purity. This is the purity of resisting all sins, the wreath of beautiful flowers bringing comfort to Jesus’ pains by her ‘yes’ as opposed to our ‘no.’
The Sacred Heart has the wound of where His Blood and water flowed for us, and a flame showing how He is on fire for love of us in the midst of the pains of our sins that pierce Him.
The Immaculate Heart with the swords symbolizing the piercing pains watching Jesus’ suffering, passion, and sins of the world. She entered into His passion and pain with her love and comfort.
What do we do to comfort Jesus’ pains and hurts by turning our sins into healing comforting total yeses? What do we do with the sins of the world that hurt Jesus? Do we pray and intercede for all sinners just as our Blessed Mother did?
Her ‘yes’ is also our call as baptized brothers and sisters of Jesus. Let us make our sins and all people’s sins into beautiful prayers and comforts for our King, and share in His heart united to ours for eternity.
