"The community of believers were of one heart and one mind. None of them ever claimed anything as his own; rather, everything was held in common." They used to lay them at the feet of the apostles to be distributed to everyone according to his need". You might say it's impossible to live a lifestyle like that in today's world. You would be correct. It would have to be lived out differently yet with the same kind set.
As we listen to this in Scriptures, we should ask if this lifestyle resembles ours to the point that all I have should be also available for others. Have you thought about what others need? Or what you could give them?
If we listed each of our possessions, we could probably manage to justify to ourselves a reason for owning each item. However, could we justify it to the poor, who need our help now? What could we say to them about our possessions? Could we justify ourselves to the early Christians? Can we justify our lifestyle to Jesus? But even more, are we of one heart and one mind?
One of Jesus’ last prayers was that we all be one. One in Faith, and one in mind and heart. Yet look at our church, it is divided into 1000s of denominations, and within our Catholic church, we see so many divisions. Some agree with this or that or not this or that in our faith. People have opinions of their own about our Faith without being open to the truth. Could we justify our thoughts and actions about the Faith to the early Christians?
Could we justify our thoughts and actions to Jesus especially as He is praying that prayer? Let us pray, we can be of one heart and one mind in thought word and deed like our ancestors in the Faith, and answer Jesus’s prayer for us all to be of one heart and mind here and for eternity with Him.
Think of this line from Scriptures and think of the early Christians. Imagine the lifestyle of the early Christians, our ancestors in faith. They were of one heart and one mind. None of them ever claimed anything as his own; rather, everything was held in common. Nor was there anyone needy among them, for all who owned property or houses sold them and donated the proceeds.”
